About Liam

County Councillor for Talybont Ward - Llanfrynach, Groessfforrdd, Llanhamlach, Pencelli, Aber, Libanus, Llanspydidd, Nant Ddu, Cwm Taff and Talybont.

Liam Fitzpatrick grew up in New York and Dublin and after university moved to London in 1987 where he embarked on a career in Financial services working with some of the most eminent Investment banks in a variety of roles until meeting his wife in 1994 . In 1995 Liam and his wife set up the first local produce and organic restaurant in the Brecon beacons which soon achieved guide book status and were two of the founder members of what evolved over the years into the Present Brecon chamber of Trade.

After a road traffic accident involving his wife in 2001 Liam became a full time father to his two children but also became involved in his children's local school activities - where he is currently vice chair of the governing body. In 2005 he was nominated to represent Parent Governors on Powys County Council a position which he held until 2008 - which gave him an insight into the strengths and weaknesses of local government. His experience as a parent prompted him to set up the Llanfaes after schools club which is now one of the most successful in Powys.

Liam is a great believer in accountability and transparency in public life and was delighted to be elected to sit on the Principal Scrutiny Committee of Powys County Council which scrutinises the board's decisions before being approved as policy.

Liam said "Having been in management since 17 has been invaluable in my new role as County Councillor for this ward, which is without doubt one of the most beautiful in the United Kingdom. But it's the people in the ward and their local concerns on a day to day basis that matter to me the most - however trivial or small it might appear to some people to me it's the biggest issue in the world - and so it should be . By taking care of small matters in Llanfrynach, Pencelli, Groessffordd and Libanus such as school transport, community toilets , or Sycamore trees - I am also able to keep an eye on the larger matters as well. By dedicating myself full time to this role for the foreseeable future I would hope that I can be of benefit to the many residents who I not only represent - but also serve."
